check the source.

A tidy sales report can hide a missing line, a wrong refund sign or the wrong month. Try the three checks yourself.

A specific exercise, with clear limits. Use desktop Excel and keep the supplied row order. The checker is built for this 2,000-row fixture and January–March tables. Other exports need adapted rules, ranges and an index.

WHAT YOU WILL PRACTISE

Three questions.
A better check.

  1. Did every legitimate line survive?

    Check line IDs and normalized fields in both directions. Counts alone can hide a missing line replaced by an extra one.

  2. Do the signed amounts agree?

    Recompute from the raw source in whole cents. Keep sales positive and refunds negative under the supplied rules.

  3. Does every group reconcile?

    Compare months and categories separately. A matching grand total can hide an amount assigned to the wrong month.

TWO WAYS TO PRACTISE

Start with the original.

Break and restore: use the prefilled checker, as in the video.
Clean it yourself: work from the raw CSV and rules before opening the checker, then compare with the answer CSVs by line ID.

    Read the rules

    Extract the ZIP. Keep sales-messy.csv unchanged and read business-rules.txt.

    Open the checker

    Open Raw-Source-Checker.xlsx in desktop Excel. Read Guide, then Checks. The prefilled cleaned answer starts at MATCH. No AI add-in is required.

  3. 3

    Test a practice copy

    Save a separate copy. Change one field in AI output!A7:G2006, then use Formulas → Calculate Now. Inspect the flags and restore the edit before the next test.

KEEP THE ROWS IN PLACE

Never sort, insert, delete or reorder rows in Raw or AI output. To simulate a missing line, clear AI output!A8:G8; do not delete the worksheet row or shift cells. The included instructions also walk through a refund-sign and month-change test.

A comparison MATCH still leaves quarantined records unresolved. Filter Source build on Disposition = QUARANTINE to review them; do not guess missing dates.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A few useful details.

What software do I need?

The source was tested in desktop Excel for Windows with English (Singapore) number and date settings. Excel for the web, Mac, Google Sheets, Numbers, other regions and phone spreadsheet apps are untested. Use desktop Excel for the workbook exercise. You do not need an AI subscription or add-in. If Excel opens the download in Protected View, review the source before enabling editing in your practice copy so changes can recalculate.

Can I use this checker on my own export?

This file is a bounded exercise, not a general CSV importer. Its fixed ID-to-row index, 2,000-row capacity, product map and January–March tables fit the supplied file. Reordering rows, adding new keys or using another export requires adapting those parts. Keep Raw unchanged. Do not paste your own cleaned file into the checker unless its IDs and order exactly match the supplied slots; compare your attempt with the answer CSVs by line ID instead.

How do I keep the raw CSV intact?

View it in a text editor, or import every column as text. Opening a CSV directly in Excel and saving over it can change identifiers, dates and amounts. Keep the downloaded original unchanged.

What does MATCH actually mean?

It means the included source records and output agree under this exercise's rules and comparison checks. It does not resolve quarantine, verify the underlying business system or establish general AI accuracy.

What changed for the public workbook?

Editor, local-folder and attached add-in metadata was removed or replaced for privacy. Worksheet data, formulas, cached results, styles, tables and worksheet relationships are unchanged from the tested source. The exact public bytes opened in desktop Excel without a recovery or add-in prompt and showed four MATCH results. This was an open check; the earlier calculation tests apply to the source workbook.

Do I need to sign up or send you my data?

No. The downloads are free and need no email. We don’t ask you to upload anything, and we haven’t added analytics scripts. Cloudflare provides the hosting and may process access logs and security data to deliver and protect the site.

How can I verify a download?

Compare its SHA-256 with the download checksums. The pack includes the same files offered individually. This is practice set 01, version 1.
